Fig Tree Bay Water Sports was established in 1967 by Mr. Tasos Psaras. A pedal boat and two canoes, acquired from another water sports shop in Famagusta, was all he had for rental...!
At that time the road coming from Paralimni and Famagusta was a dirt road with no lighting which only locals knew.
Consequently the beach was mostly accessible by the sea and many tourists from Famagusta used to take boat trips to Fig TreeBay and spend the day on the beach.
At that time the only facilities on the beach were the water sports and two restaurants owned by the Zefkas Brothers and Landos Brothers.
After the Turkish invasion on the island in 1974 things changed rapidly.... In 1976 the water sports changed hands and were passed on to the Zefkas Brothers (George and Tony Zefkas) who bought the business from the original owner. At that point in time the United Nation's soldiers were repeatedly
visiting the beach to use the water sports facilities.
By the time that George and Tony Zefkas, owners of the well known Fig Tree Bay Restaurant, took over the operation of the water sports, the beach was getting well known to tourists who were setting off to Cyprus again after the Turkish invasion.
The water sports had to be upgraded since more and more people were looking for new things to do.
George Zefkas' two sons Zannetos and Marios were brought up on the beach and loved water sports. They were the first to try all the new activities, skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, etc.
In 1987 one of the two, Marios, took over the operation of the water sports and has been running the business up to the present day together with his partners (Zannetos and Pieris). They also operate the kiosk on Fig Tree Bay beach.
Water sports is a way of life for us, we were brought up on the beach and so are our children. It is not only a business but passion and love for what we do. We always update our equipment and offer the most up-to-date water sports facilities
